Kuina is or coming new cluster, meant to replace Deigo. At this time, the purchace process is under way, and we expect that the system will be operational during the fiscal year of 2027.
The name “Kuina” comes from Yanbaru Kuina, the Okinawan Rail, a largely flightless bird with a lot of character that lives in Yanbaru, on the north of the island.
The name was voted on by the OIST community, and “Kuina” won with a third of all votes; with “Kaji” (wind) and “Goya” (bitter gourd) in second and third place.
It’s especially apt as name for a cluster as the Kuina runs very fast :)
